With a lot of people now learning what CrossFit is and more people trying it out every week, I wanted to give you 3 reasons to get on the bandwagon and see what this CrossFit business is all about.
We all know that being active and training is a lifestyle. Whether you’re a person that wakes up at 5am every morning and goes for a 50km bike ride or you walk for 15 minutes after work. Being active is good for us in so many ways. It gets us out of the house and away from work, it helps to de-stress us, it makes us feel good physically and mentally and it can be fun to do. So why do we train the way that we do?
Some of us go to the gym with a friend and we learn how to do bench press and how to use the smith machine. Then from watching others in the gym we might pick up a few more moves and suddenly we have our set training program of chest and tris, back and biceps. This is the way a lot of young men start training and how older men learn how to use half of the machines in gyms. Some of us like to be outside so we start running day after day and keep going until we are tired, maybe increasing the distance for the next run or just running around our block a few times a week, both of which are fine and is definitely better than nothing.
1. Guaranteed Results
In our CrossFit gym one of the main reasons I see people joining is because they are not getting the results that they want! When you start any training program look at the top people in this sport or program and think, “is this the results that I am trying to get?” You wouldn’t start running 20km every day if your goal is to put on muscle, get bigger and stay lean. Just as you wouldn’t go into a gym and start a bodybuilding program if your goal is to lose weight. In CrossFit we specialise in not specializing, we use all different types of training programs to keep the body guessing and this is one of the main reasons CrossFit is so successful at significantly improving general fitness. The consistent variation will help you in all areas. You will become stronger, faster and develop more power; you will improve in agility, balance and accuracy. Your endurance, stamina and flexibility is all going to go up. This is the result of the training program and is displayed by all the top athletes in this sport. The CrossFit training program can be used to get results in any area you want. With correct programming and coaching by an Urban coach you can lose weight, get stronger, gain muscle and stay lean, you will get results! This is the beauty of the program and the process.
2. Stop the Boredom!
The second reason I see people trying out Urban Energy is that they are just bored with their normal fitness routine, where they are often doing the same thing every day. They struggle to think of new routines and don’t want to pay the overpriced Personal Trainer $70 per session to help them. They often just copy someone else or keep slugging away, which can cause us to loose interest in training. At Urban Energy EVERY day will be different. You will be coached through your warm up and taught how to move the body. Not only do we teach you how to do it, but also why you are doing it and how it will help you. A new movement or skill is practiced every day; you’ll be trained like a professional athlete by a professional coach but in a fun group fitness atmosphere. The constantly changing routine and the great coaching is what will keep each and every session interesting.
3. Be a Part of a Team
The third reason I see people join up is because of the awesome community we have at Urban. We have people from all walks of life, all fitness levels and backgrounds, but we are all in the gym for the same reason following the same training program to help us reach our own personal goals. We talk to each other. You will make new friends and spend your training session being encouraged and supported by people that you have only just met and this is only the beginning of the type of community that your joining. Normally when you’re at a gym, you may have everyone training with headphones in and working off in the corner in the “zone”. The only words that are spoken are to ask “how many more sets have you got to go, can I use this bar after you?” This is not the way life or the way training should be, we are social creatures. Working and training is so much more fun when you are doing it with others. The CrossFit classes is the perfect environment in which to train, learn and meet heaps of new people. Being supported by others when you’re in the middle of a hard training session immediately establishes a bond and everyone feels like a part of the team, a part of our big community that is like no other. Urban Energy is a gym built for the members. We encourage team workouts and always want to make new members feel welcome.
So no matter what kind of training style you like to do, above all we encourage you to move, be active and live that healthy lifestyle.
