Tarnz is a mum who also works full  time in her admin job… and who never thought she’d be able to do CrossFit.
​

In 5 short months, she’s come a long way and now prioritizes CrossFit 3 times a week, never missing a session during her lunch break.

We have seen Tarnz overcome her fears, compete in her first competition, do workouts she didn’t think she could finish, lift weights she didn’t dream off and become a part of our community like she was there from the start. The life that Tania leads is a busy one and we wanted to find out more about it, so we asked...
Every time we see Tania she has a smile on her face. Always happy and ready to go so we asked her what keeps you happy and stress free?
“it’s all about training and when the opportunity arises, taking time for myself and sitting on the beach and switching off to the world.”
What’s something people wouldn’t know about you?
“Hmm that I don't mind a bit of classical music on my playlist.”
What are weekends like for you?
“hanging out with my son at the park, beach, bike riding, and fun parks. Spending time with family and friends.”
Now, we know Tarnz is dying to talk about her fitness achievements so Tarnz, fill us in!
Before you had a go, what was your opinion on CrossFit?
“ Initial thoughts I can't do that. How the heck am I going to swing myself up on a bar or pull myself up on those ring things or box jump burpee without dying at just the thought of it.”
Then what made you try it for the first time?
“I used to do boot camp in Helensvale and I needed somewhere closer to home and Urban was where I landed.”
What do you remember about your first session?
“I was absolutely freaking out of my skin! I whinged and screwed my face up at just about everything out of fear of failure. Steve was my coach on my first day and there was only myself and one other, who was an absolute machine. But it was the best session ever and I knew that day I’d made the right move...”
So what’s next? Already we have seen you smash so many goals! What’s next to tick off?
“To get to 100kg front squat, 120kg deadlift and to do one proper pull up!”
If you could describe your time at Urban so far in 3 words what would you say?
‘Forever mind changing. I've learnt a lot about mindset and mind strength/grit. It's the mind that becomes the barrier, not so much the body.”
Do you have a piece of advice for all those people out there who say they aren't fit enough for CrossFit?
“Just get on and do it! Give yourself time to adapt cos the style of training is like nothing else. The workouts become all about you and no one else.”

Tarnz, you eagerness to learn is that of a true athlete. You show up every day ready to go and put 100% in to whatever the whiteboard says! You are a pleasure to talk to between workouts and only ever have positive things to say. We are delighted to have such amazing people among us at Urban and we can’t wait to see where your training takes you! Whatever it is, we know you will succeed!
